Why Skin Consultations are Important

Here at FACEPOP, you are our number one priority. Because we place a heavy emphasis on our clients, we thoroughly believe in the importance of a thorough consultation between a client and their skin therapist. Consultations are not only a way for us to get to know you and your skin, but also a way for you to understand the process and how we work. Establishing that initial relationship with your esthetician is the first (and arguably one of the most important) steps in your skincare journey!

Still not convinced? That’s alright! We’re happy to dive in deeper to lay down the foundation as to why starting off with a skin consultation is so important.

What can you expect from a skin consultation?

If you’ve never had a skin consultation before, let’s go over what you can expect when you meet with us at FACEPOP! After all, being completely transparent sets both of us up for success!

Being heard by your esthetician

First and foremost: we want you to be and feel heard. Nothing is more frustrating than feeling like you’ve explained your situation and concerns to someone that dismisses or explains away any potential problems you may have. We’re here to hear you and try to best understand how to provide the appropriate help.

Identifying areas of sensitivity or concern

Once we have an understanding of your skin concerns and goals, we will come up with a game plan with products and treatments to help achieve them. We will touch base on lifestyle, diet, what treatments or products have you used, what medications and if you have any sensitivities. Really diving deep and looking at everything as a whole really helps us create the best plan for you and will give you long lasting results.

Discussing your long term skincare goals

Lastly, we want to go over your long-term skincare goals. Knowing what you’re comfortable with, what you can financially afford, and what you hope to commit to on a long-term basis formulates the best plan possible. Our mission is to help you reach your skin goals. We will prescribe the proper products and education to help you achieve your optimal skin health. Products are not mandatory but are crucial for results. Our estheticians are here to help you and if you can only invest in one or two products, that’s ok! We’ll come up with a plan that you are comfortable with. Consistency is key. Slow and steady wins the race!

When you and your esthetician are both on the same page for longterm goals, your path to success will be tangible and crystal clear. We’re here for you!

What do I need to let my esthetician know during my skincare consultation?

Sometimes things can be embarrassing to disclose, and while we value your privacy, it is important to be upfront and honest with your esthetician. Being open allows them to help you and your skin to the best of their abilities.

While you don't have to disclose your entire medical history, here is our list of estheticians top concerns when learning about a client's skin:

Concerns about sensitive skin or allergies

First and foremost: if you’re allergic to certain foods, products, or ingredients, it is important for us to know what those products are as well as how severely those things may affect you. Additionally, if you suffer from frequent skin sensitivities, this may affect the process or the frequency in which we provide treatment. Any surgeries and Botox or fillers are something the therapist would need to know as well.

These allergies can range from food allergies, latex allergies, or allergies that you’ve experienced with other beauty products. Be as specific as possible and include examples of your experiences.

Consider any fears or worries you may have about specific skin treatments

This part is incredibly important! If you’re scared or worried about something, let us know immediately! Your safety and comfort is our number one concern! The last thing we want is for your journey to feel scary and unapproachable – after all, you will never be forced to try something you’re not comfortable with.

Remember, you’re treating yourself and your skin. This should be a stress-free, relaxing process to achieve the skin you’re most comfortable in.

Discuss your past history with skincare treatments and how they served you

Last, but certainly not least, we want to know what options you’ve tried already. We want to know who you’ve seen, as well as what products you have tried (or are still trying), as this information can help us build a solid foundation for your success. Some products can cause Transepidermal Water Loss and stripping on the skin that can make skin conditions worse. That's why product knowledge is very important to us. Feel free to bring up any products you’ve been interested in trying as well as it helps us understand you and your skin journey better.
